Jerusalem In My Heart + VÍZ

Jerusalem In My Heart. Unique project of Lebanese-Canadian musician Radwan Ghazi Moumneh and Montreal-based filmmaker Erin Weisgerber is an immersive audiovisual experience and an evolving effort to forge a modern experimental Levantine-Arabic music wed to hand-made visuals using analog 16mm film at site-specific screen installations.

Traditional melismatic singing and the strumming of buzuk is weaved into modern deployments of modular synthesis, sound design and field recordings, while Moumneh's lyrical themes are deeply expressive and rich in political and socio-cultural consciousness. Weisgerber illustrates the music with film loops and projections, manipulating the photographic, chemical and material properties of 16mm film, rendering rhythmic images that exist between figuration and abstraction, external vision and internal landscape.

The title of their latest album Qalaq expresses (and literally translates to) deep worry. on various obvious global levels, but also specifically with respect to Lebanon: its collapsing domestic politics, economy and infrastructure; the tragedy and aftermath of the 2020 Beirut port explosion; the intractable geography and geopolitics that continue to condemn the country to corruption, disruption, destabilization and violence. The album is a deeply collaborative project, featuring the likes of Tim Hecker, Moor Mother, Lucrecia Dalt and many other artists.

After their Czech premiere at Brno's Kabinet Múz in 2017, JIMH returns in April to present their live set at MeetFactory. The concert has a limited capacity and is seated.
