Chromatics, Glass Candy, Desire, Italians Do It Better or Symmetry share one common denominator: Johnny Jewel. ★ For the American producer, songwriter, music pioneer and synth-pop icon, music is therapy. Over the past three decades, he has been transforming the trauma of his youth into a vast and colourful body of music for film, television and the dancefloor: shimmering dreamy synth-pop, slick noir disco and infectious dance-rock.

Harnessing the nostalgic power of analog synths from the '70s and '80s coupled with surreal visuals, the echoes of his evocative aesthetics can be heard in the sound of a whole generation of contemporary bands such as Chvrches, in films like Drive or Lost River, or series such as Twin Peaks or Those Who Kill, whose soundtracks Jewel (co-)wrote.
