Kee Avil + TEll A ViSiON

Post–punk guitar loops meet fragmented vocals, abstract soundscapes and percussive glitches in the work of Montreal–based musician and producer Kee Avil. Her accomplished 2023 debut Crease garnered widespread critical accolades in The Wire, Mojo and The Quietus, earned a nomination for both Canada's Juno Awards and Bandcamp's Album Of The Year, and its adventurousness and boundless creativity have earned comparisons to early PJ Harvey, This Heat or Gazelle Twin.

This year, Vicky Mettler aka Kee Avil follows up with her sophomore album Spine. Here she strips back the heavily textured compositions, opening up to a much rawer, minimalist sound that leans towards experimental folk and lyrical songwriting. Spine, an album full of juxtapositions, emerged from a self–imposed framework of a limited number of instruments and sound sources, which underlines the intimate nature of all its ten tracks, testimonies reflecting on time’s passage, remembrance, and decay. "I was looking back at these versions of myself and what could have been, what didn't end up being and what did end up being, and going back like that through time. Seeing the future, the past."

Kee Avil returns to Prague in May after two years, bringing her new record to MeetFactory, supported by the emerging avantgarde pop project TEll A ViSiON.
