Open Call for AfroCzech artists, writers, activists and other creatives

About the Open Call

The call for AfroCzech visual artists, designers, architects, writers, activist and other creatives living and working in the Czech Republic is a collaboration between London-based artists and curatorial collective Languid Hands, Display – Association for Research and Collective Practice and MeetFactory Artists in Residence Program. The open call is a reaction to a continuous precarious state of the arts, culture and activism amidst the global pandemic and post-pandemic world, aiming to support and nurture the AfroCzech creative and activist community. The project's aim is to give higher visibility to artist's, writers, activists and other creatives whose practices are underrepresented in the cultural and arts sector. The prospective applicant will have an opportunity to contribute to public programme of Display  in the form of workshops, screening, performance, discussion etc. with a full support of Display’s curatorial team and mentoring by Languid Hands.

Residency dates:
The residency will take place from October 1st to November 30th 2020. The residency shall not be divided into several parts.

The MeetFactory provides chosen candidates with: 

• Studio at the MeetFactory,
• Fee of 500 EUR per month,
• Production budget up to 180 EUR,
• background of the international multi-genre arts center,
• possibility to use the facilities of the residential floors,
• full participation in the MeetFactory AiR Program - involvement in public events (open studios, presentations, workshops) and other activities of the MeetFactory AiR Program (trips, studio visit by curators, etc.),
• networking and mediating contacts to Prague's, Czech and Slovak art scene,
• PR support  through MeetFactory channels,
• production assistance in the implementation of projects.

Display provides a selected candidate with:

• Travel costs reimbursement (for candidates from outside or Prague),
• Curatorial and production support of the candidate´s project and work,
• Professional local and international network and care,
• Space of Display, a fee and a basic production budget for events or other public program,
• PR support through Display channels.

• current portfolio (in case of visual artists, designers, architects) and/or other samples of work
• project proposal that include short description of research and practice planned for the residency, its connection to  your wider  practice and what do you hope to achieve during the residency (practical outcomes).

Application deadline is May 30th 2020. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
