Prague duo post-hudba releases a self-titled acoustic record, returning to older songs in new arrangements. The album, along with a songbook which celebrates the band's fifteenth anniversary, will be launched on September 25 at Prague's MeetFactory
For fifteen years, lyricist and singer Dominik Zezula and producer & multi-instrumentalist Tomáš Havlen have been creating a sonic world where contradictions make sense and the suffocating reality of everyday life dictates a restless rhythm. As post-hudba, they combine pop songwriting with pulsating dance rhythms, noisy walls of guitar, and heavy lyrics about the life of a generation that has failed to come to terms with itself. The intimacy of 21st-century urban folk meets the echoes of punk and metal roots.
They describe their latest release as an album of new songs with old lyrics. The record was released digitally on the community label Bad Names, and the main physical artifact of the band's fifteenth-anniversary celebrations will be a songbook containing all sixty post-hudba songs. The idea grew out of Christmas concerts (besídka), where the duo began returning to older songs using just guitars and minimal effects. What started as the idea of an acoustic best-of ended up becoming a collection of older songs rewritten in new forms. "So that someone who puts the album on and doesn't know the original versions of the songs would feel like this is how they were meant to sound from the very start," says post-hudba's singer and lyricist Dominik Zezula.
The songbook remains the centerpiece of this year's fifteenth-anniversary celebrations. It documents all sixty songs that Dominik Zezula and Tomáš Havlen have written for post-hudba. The songs are arranged by period and include chords wherever it makes sense. The songbook will be available at the launch concert on September 25 at MeetFactory. This show will kick off the band's fall acoustic tour.
