Radio Wave Stimul Festival: Lafawndah (US) + Throwing Shade (UK) + Total Freedom (US)

The first Radio Wave Stimul Festival 2016 will bring a load of sonic adventure to Smíchov's MeetFactory as a result of what has been happening most recently at the intersection of club dance music, globalized pop, and R & B. It will be the Czech premiere of Lafawndah, the rising star of British label “Warp”, whose sound is based on a combination of Middle Eastern and Caribbean rhythms with club vibes. It will also be the Czech premier of Throwing Shade, a London-based producer, and the collaboration of Sophie and Total Freedom, a founding member of the legendary crew Fade To Mind.

The singer and producer Lafawndah is swallowing a dagger on the cover of her four-piece EP “Tan”, which was published this year by the prestigious British label “Warp.” It's something more than just a visually catchy theme; music by the Iran-born and Paris-educated New Yorker, is in fact just as risky and mysterious as her theatrical gesture. With a unique sound that transcends geographical and intellectual boundaries, Lafawndah distills inspiration not only from Iranian and French sonic sounds, but also adds the enchanting rhythms of traditional Persian music from her parents - and a penchant for salsa rhythms, which she developed  in Mexico. Her strongest source of inspiration is club minimalist production focused on an intense bass sound, which ranks her alongside stars of contemporary R & B such as Kelela and FKA twigs. Lafawndah is not tight with a single genre, which is making her the future hope of truly globalized Pop.

Throwing Shade    
The London producer of Throwing Shade came into wider recognition as the voice behind Sophie's hyper pop anthem “Lemonade”, but Nabilah Iqbal has been on the scene for more than three years. During that time, she has managed to get on board with the “Ninja Tune” label, under whose auspices she issued her five-piece EP entitled “House of Silk.” This represents an attractive combination of depersonalized vocals, dance beats, and melancholic pop songs influenced by the aesthetics of social networks and new ways of interpersonal communication. The music of Throwing Shade works on several levels to encourage people to forget about their surroundings and just dance.

Total Freedom    
Elder statesman of the current club scene and a founding member of the legendary team “Fade To Mind,” Ashland Mines, who performs under the name Total Freedom, is among the most celebrated and the most conversant DJs of the contemporary electronic underground. His sets, characterized by memorable selections, can be seen as hyperactive deconstruction of the functional club sound. Total Freedom currently plays rather sporadically, thus his performance at the Radio Wave Stimul Festival will be one of the few opportunities to experience his unique and personal approach to performing.
