Arthur Poutignat

As a visual artist, Arthur Poutignat graduated in 2010 from the HEAR art school, Haute école des arts du Rhin in Strasbourg and in 2016 from the CFPI (Training for intervention artists in institutions).
Arthur Poutignat lives and works in Strasbourg. He is a founding member of La Semencerie, an artists’ run space located in Strasbourg since 2008. He is the initiator and artistic director of the INACT art performance and intermedia festival, which takes place in Strasbourg since 2011. In 2015, he was co-initiator and main partner of the KINACT project, international meeting of performers in Kinshasa (DRC), in partnership with the Eza Possibles, collective of Congolese artists.

The perception issue is a central inquiry in his work. The viewer’s point of view, the construction of space, its degradation (anamorphosis, metamorphosis, singular perspectives), are the means that will allow new visual arrangements, conducive to the questioning of traditional landmarks. Ambiguity and strangeness are the means of this new inquiry, questioning the common references and the generally accepted distinctions between volume, surface, and pattern. Using paradox, reversal or equivocacy, my approach leads me to produce objects, installations and devices, which divert the perception of the spectator, proposing a strange vision, an imaginary world that comes to put the tangible in crisis. Shadows, spatial ambiguities create doubt, highlight them and allow me to reveal the contradictions and oppositions underlying our apprehension of the world.
