Bartosz Kokosiński

Bartosz Kokosiński was born in 1984 in Siewierz. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków.  

His works reflect upon contemporary painting and its relation to reality. On the one hand, in the series “Paintings Devouring Reality” his canvases feed on real objects and forcefully deform them, hiding them rather than revealing. They also touch upon the question of collecting and hoarding things. On the other hand, Kokosińki discovers that paintings can be corporeal in nature, with wrinkles, folds, and deformations, as if they were aging, weighed down by their past.  

Solo exhibitions: “Vapours” in ABC Gallery in Poznan, Poland (2015); “Crack” in Knoll Galerie Wien, Austria (2014); (Dis)Order of Things in Bunkier Sztuki in Kraków (2012).  

Group exhibitions: “Do(not) Touch! Haptic Aspects of Polish Art After 1945”, Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu, Toruń, Poland (2015); "Power of Abstraction", Museum of Modern Fine Art, Minsk, Belarus.

Honorary mention during the 42nd Painting Biennale "Bielska Jesień 2015"; honorary mention at the 41st Painting Biennale "Bielska Jesień 2013"; honorary mention granted by the publishing patrons: „ARTLUK”, „EXIT”, „OBIEG”, Winner of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award, Canada (2006).
