Christina Dietz

Christina Dietz (1994) is a sculptor/multidisciplinary artist with an interest in food and fermentation. Growing up in rural Central Pennsylvania (USA) has helped to cultivate her interest in where things come from and how they are made. She explores the glut and mechanized world of post-industrialized processed food as well as the intimate act of home cooking. Her work examines boundaries, sincerity, self worth and societal roles through the lense of both traditional and contemporary methods of food production.

Dietz currently resides in NJ (US) where she works as a woodworking assistant teacher at a private, K-8 school. Dietz is the co-founder of Gxrl on Grill, a collaborative that focuses on food, feminism, and the body. Gxrl on Grill curated a series of events in Brooklyn, NY (US) that featured video and performance artists who use food in their work.

Dietz graduated with a BA in psychology and a BFA in sculpture from Penn State University. In 2017, she received the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design Windgate fellowship which enabled her to investigate traditional craft processes and how they intersect with rituals of the body. Dietz participated in a variety of international workshops including traditional leather shoemaking in London and joss stick making in Malaysia.
