The work of Eva Ďurovec (1981) is concerned with living space and fulfillment in the context of social, economic, and environmental crises, issues of corporate power and kleptocracy, and their impacts on our planet. Her praxis is also based on an unfixed collection of knowledge that she works with and puts into relationships and chronologies in a therapeutic manner. Due to the limitations of her own memory, she is forced to write down any events, numbers, graphs, and statistics. Her work is not determined by prevalent critical approaches to the current state of our world, but by recognizing past events, relationships, and their consequences. She operates in time dimensions and in layers of knowledge and alternative pasts, presents, and futures. She reflects on the explorations of her own life story and privileges from the viewpoint of the Central European bubble and publishes them under the motto “The personal is public” with a sense for dialogue or argument, which are inescapable in her praxis. In 2021, she attended the WHW Akademija in Zagreb. Her handwritten book debut Nové formy myšlienkových máp (The New Forms of Mind Maps), adapting the topic of a working student and almost-mother in a reformed school environment who turns her studies into business to completely commodify her life, was in the short-list of the Stiftung Buchkunst Award 2022 for the best German book design and in the long-list of the Republic of Consciousness Prize 2023 for small publishers.

Education:
Eva Ďurovec graduated in Economic Information Science from University of Economics in Bratislava and in Photography from Silesian University in Opava. In 2018, she finished her Master’s degree in Raumstrategie (Spatial Strategies) from Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee under the tutelage of Alice Creischer, Andreas Siekmann, and Stephan Mörsch. She has exhibited in the After the Butcher Gallery (2022) and Wedding Gallery in Berlin (2019), as well as in the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof in Hamburg (2021). Her collaborative claymation video Don't open. Deaths inside (2019) was exhibited at the 14th Triennale kleinplastik Fellbach, in HMKV Hartware MedienKunstVerein in Dortmund, in Kow Gallery, and at Videoart at Midnight in Berlin. She has also had solo exhibitions in the Jozef Kollar Gallery and Schemnitz Gallery in Banská Štiavnica. She is based in Košice and Berlin.
