SUMMIT

The time has come, Sisters and Brothers, and we all gather now to reveal something whose existence is already evident and unavoidable. The reason behind the Summit is the inescapable task, that we have to make the revolutinoary step: the best testimony—the only step to be made. Because this is the last chance and we are on the edge. We are right at the point where we can’t stay any longer without being significantly disturbed by what has to happen. The cycle has come to an end, And for you the only way to survive the refurbishment is that you join us. Believe us, take the medication we are offering to you, and don’t forget, that you must diligently shoot ahead in the dark forest, to be able to see the light, To be eligible, to witness the Future Event.

Summit is an immersive performance speculating about dark future scenarios. The latest project by curator/theorist Gyula Muskovics, dancer/choreographer Viktor Szeri and 3D artist/game designer Tamás Páll is a collective mourning ritual, a preparation for an unexpected, yet already evident Future Event. The trio developed this project at MeetFactory within the framework of the International Visegrad Fund’s Performing Arts Residency Program.

The artists:

Viktor Szeri (b. 1993) is an independent dancer and choreographer, based in Budapest, Hungary. He graduated at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy in 2014, and started developing solo performances, as well as engaging in collaborative projects. His work is characterized by transmedial experiments. His pieces deal with youth culture, subcultures, and weird identities. His solos were presented in various places across Budapest and Berlin, including theaters, exhibitions and festivals. His performance titled ‘∆YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY∆’ was shown in Artus Theater and tranzit.hu in Budapest and as part of the Montag Modus series in Collegium Hungaricum, Berlin. His other solos (‘the muffin what we used to make together’; ‘get ahold of it’) were presented in Trafó House of Contemporary Arts in Budapest, and he performed his fake healing project ‘Enjoy, Meanwhile I’m Working’ at the OFF-Biennale Budapest, and other exhibitions. His latest choreographies (‘Sandy is going out’; ‘Melinda’s Dream’) were presented in theaters such as the MU Theater or the Castle Garden in Budapest. As a dancer he worked with several Hungarian and international choreographers, such as Csaba Molnár (‘The Ox’), Imre Vass (‘tanking place’), Doris Uhlich (‘Sesmic Session’), and Anne Van den Broek (‘WArd/waRD’). In 2017 he participated in a collaborative project at the 3rd Visegrad-Turkish Festival in Istanbul, and received the DanceWEB2017 scholarship at ImpulsTanz Festival in Vienna. https://vimeo.com/user33282956

Tamás Páll (b. 1989) is a game designer, developer and 3D artist living in Berlin. His works have been exhibited at the FACT Liverpool, Panke Gallery Berlin, Ludwig Museum and Trafó House of Contemporary Arts in Budapest. He is a co-founding of the Rites Network art collective, which aims to create new spaces of experience by using game engines, observing and simulating the workings of complex technological systems within specific social contexts, and reimagining them as worlds that nurture their own generative properties. Since he graduated at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest in 2016, his research and artistic focus is on the emergence of artificial intelligence, post-human systems and techno-dystopias. His latest game project with Rites Network called ‘rromok’ is a simulation game seen through the lens of an artificial intelligence. It was commissioned and published by the Victoria&Albert Museum London in October 2018.

Gyula Muskovics (b. 1988) is an independent curator based in Budapest, Hungary. He worked for several institutions and organizations in the past, such as the Ludwig Museum, tranzit. hu, OFF- Biennale, and Trafó House of Contemporary Arts, in Budapest. Between 2013 and 2018 he was the editor in chief of tranzitblog, one of Hungary’s most known art magazines, and for a shorter period was part of the editorial team of mezosfera, as well. He graduated with an MA in Art and Design Theory at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in 2013, and continued his studies here in 2017 within the framework of the Design Culture Studies PhD program. His interests range from performative exhibition making, avant-garde fashion, and queer theory, to contemporary dance. His curatorial practice is based on collaboration with other curators, artists and designers working with different media. His work investigates the political potential of the personal and its relevance in the resistance to social norms and political pressure. In 2018 he participated in the curatorial residency of the 10th Berlin Biennial.
