Hynek Alt is a visual artist based in Prague. In his work, he focuses predominantly on the post-conceptual approach to the medium of photography and the exploration of photographic image, which he ankers in spacial installations, employing the principles and the character of recordings rather than a photograph itself.
From 2008 till 2016 he led a photography studio at UMPRUM (Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design) in Prague with Aleksandra Vajd. Since 2017 he has been working in Prague at FAMU for the Department of Photography, where he established a Studio of Photography and New Media. Regular meetings of the studio are part of the Meetfactory residency. Apart from his independent artistic activities he is also dedicating his time to the photographic documentation of art pieces and exhibitions, which he uses as a means for research. He frequently collaborates on collective projects with other artists and theorists. He is represented by Lucie Drdova Gallery in Prague.
Hynek Alt studied photography in Prague at FAMU and with the Fulbright Scholarship completed a postgraduate program in Visual Research Lab at the State University of New York at New Platz.
His works were presented at joint and independent exhibitions in both local and international context; among others the Prague’s Biennale Photo 3, Prague Biennale 5, Astrup Fearnley Museet in Oslo, Design Cloud’s Gallery Chicago, Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, MUMOK in Vienna, Samuel Dorsky Museum of Arts, New Paltz, Center P74 in Ljubljana, Bard College, NY, Center for Contemporary Art Futura, Gallery Meet Factory, Prague City Gallery, PLATO in Ostrava and many more.
