Tomasz Kręcicki constructs his paintings by playing with scale, consciously manipulating conventions of depiction—from Pop Art to minimalism and expressionism. At the centre of the artist’s interest are objects and props so ordinary that he can effectively play on their images: to mythologize the everyday and to throw into doubt its poetic beauty eagerly exploited by artists. There is visible erotic tension in his paintings, which are inspired by erothic thrillers and b-movies. A series of paintings are composed as film stills displaying an unexpected, delirious warping of reality: falling cars, swallowing pills, compositions with guns, knifes, or monstrous fingertips.
Tomasz Kręcicki (1990) lives and works in Cracow. Together with painters Karolina Jabłońska and Cyryl Polaczek has founded artist's run space called Potencja in Kraków.
