Josep Piñol

Josep Piñol (Tivenys, 1994) is an artist working across performance, installation, and conceptual research. His work explores the intersection of ritual, institutional critique, and political ecology, focusing on how authority, legality, and value are enacted and contested in public space. Through situational devices, mimicry, and displacement, he brings systems of power, mediation, and legitimation into friction, exposing the gap between symbolic structures and their material consequences. Operating from within the regimes of legitimation that sustain these systems, he appropriates and reconfigures their languages to reveal their internal tensions. Far from offering consolation, his works are grounded in discomfort as a site of truth.

Residency dates: 1. 10. – 1. 12. 2026

RESIDENCY PROJECT

During the residency, Josep will develop The Fan, a research-based project that examines the frictions between thermal comfort, urban infrastructure, and the politics of climate adaptation. Beginning from the observation that a fan produces relief without changing the underlying condition, the project uses thermal experience as an entry point to think about how heat is lived, distributed, and negotiated in public space. Through research situated in Prague and the prototyping of a functional device, The Fan will take shape as a shareable public situation in which thermal experience becomes a way to reflect on infrastructure, everyday politics, and the social conditions of climate adaptation.
